Absence Reporting

Attendance Procedure

  • Morning registers will be completed by 9.30 am.
  • First day attendance calls to parents/carers and families will be completed immediately after the registers close at 9.30 am. This is so that we ensure students have not got into difficulties or an accident on the way to school.
  • If we cannot speak to parents/carers and families, we will send an email and a text message to all contacts on record asking them to contact the school and explaining that if we do not hear from them, we will do a safe and well visit to the home.
  • If we do not see a child for three consecutive days and cannot make contact with anyone at home, a member of staff will visit the home to ensure that the child is safe and well.  This will be logged on CPOMS as a safeguarding matter.  The Head of School (or Deputy Head of School in their absence) may decide that a safe and well visit is required before this point if there are particular concerns about a young person.
  • Any unexplained absences for a young person who has a CIN or CP plan will be reported immediately to the social worker or other relevant professionals.

Absence Reporting

 Reporting Your Child's Absence

If your child is absent from school, please let us know every day.  It is important that we have a clear and valid reason for the absence.

How and when to report:

Please call the relevant school office on each day that your child is absent.

Morning session: before 9:30 am

Afternoon session: before 1:30 pm

If you need to leave a voicemail or send an email please include:

  • Your child’s full name
  • A specific reason for the absence (e.g., “high temperature” or “vomiting” rather than “unwell” or “ill”).
  • If leaving a voicemail, please state your child’s full name and the full reason for absence. We cannot accept vague reasons a clear explanation is required.

Important:

  • We may contact you to request more information about the reason for your child's absence if you have not provided enough information.

  • If we have not seen or heard from your child within 3 consecutive days of absence, the school will automatically carry out a Safe and Well check, which may include a home visit.
  • Absences due to sickness or diarrhoea require your child to stay home for 48 hours after the last episode before returning to school.
